Theotokos

It is truly right to bless you, O God-bearing One, as the ever-blessed and immaculate Mother of our God. More honorable than the cherubim and by far more glorious than the seraphim; ever a virgin, you gave birth to God the Word. O true Mother of God, we magnify you.*

What is more precious to a Christian than to bear Christ in our souls? What greater gift do we receive than the Eucharist where Christ unites Himself to us body, blood, soul, and divinity? Who understands these gifts better than she who surrendered to the will of God? She who gave her fiat and bore Him first in her body and in her heart? Who has honored these treasured gifts more perfectly?

How blessed are we to be able to turn to the Theotokos. The great mystery of the Incarnation walked among us because of her fiat and total surrender to God’s will. She is ready to accept us in her motherly embrace, and willing to teach us how to hold Christ, her precious Son. How blessed are we to read her story in the Gospel and to echo her Magnificat. O Blessed Mother of God, teach us how to follow you, how to bear Christ in our hearts and souls, in every fiber of our being. Amen.
