When Technology Connects People
“Pa, dali, selfie tayo!” (Hurry Pa. Let’s take a selfie!)
It was January 1st that this screen shot was taken. 12:43 AM at our time and 1:43 PM their time. The time difference is always a challenge because one of the parties would either have to wake up early or sleep late in order for the call to be possible, but it is always worth it. I couldn’t be more thankful with technology for bridging the distance that New Year, but even more when during Pops hospitalization, Facebook Messenger made it possible for me to see him alive one last time.
I am very consoled knowing that Our Lady of Fatima escorted Pops to heaven on the day of her feast. Above all else, Papa is very faithful to praying the rosary. The Gospel also for that day (in the US it was still May 12) gave me another assurance that Jesus came for him.
He said in John 14:
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be.”
With the consolation from Jesus and Mary, how can I be sad? It is definitely the grace of faith that has given me the joy and strength to face the moment and understand what is going on inside of me. The gift of technology, used rightly, has also given me the peace in being able to see Papa alive one last time. There is so much to be thankful for; so many graces pouring. Thank you Lord! All praise and glory be to God!!

Papa, thank you for teaching me the theology that cannot be learned from books alone but rather is exemplified in life. Be the guardian of my vocation, my intercessor up there in heaven. Love you Pops! Rock on! =)
