Guest Post: The Gift of Vocation
This past weekend, despite the snowy predictions, we held a “Come and See” experience for young women who are interested in knowing more about religious life. On Saturday evening, each of us chose an image to share with everyone, along with a short reflection on how it relates to vocation.
One of our postulants, Cynthia Pearce, wrote the following:
We can’t quite see the gift she’s been given, nor can she really describe it. Because the gift is so precious, so beautiful, we don’t quite have the words.
But the gift is hers, from God. And she has a choice, to enter into it, or to put the lid back on and set it aside for another time, another day.
If she enters into it, this gift will transform her completely. And people around her, may not understand, what is happening or why. Perhaps a better gift will come along, something that’s easier to describe, easier to understand.
But can that really happen? Something that’s easier to understand and to explain can surely be found, but a more beautiful gift? That doesn’t seem possible.
She holds a beautiful gift, a gift from God. Now what?
